PHAs are more gentle than AHAs due to their larger structure. They do not penetrate as deeply as AHAs and take a longer time to dissolve dead cells. Studies show PHAs do not cause as much irritation.
Gluconolactone has some interesting properties:
In a 2004 study, Gluconolactone was found to prevent UV damage in mouse skin cells and has not been found to increase sun sensitivity. However, we still recommend wearing SPF daily.

This brown goo gel has won me over! Brown goo gel 4eva!
It's very gentle with tiny exfoliating granules, but not like sugar, they just melt away with the cleanser. Has a nice light earthy scent and the texture is pleasant and calming on the skin. It does very well at cleansing away skin oils, but I wouldn't recommend it to take off makeup, more like a second lighter cleanser.
Skinmade Salicylic Acid + Gluconolactone Gentle Renewing Cleanser 28 ingredients
This cleanser uses mild-strength surfactants and contains no fatty acids or harsh esters. While it does include fatty alcohols like cetyl and stearyl alcohol, they’re gentle and non-comedogenic, making the formula suitable for all skin types. I like the gel texture, and the clear bottle makes it easy to see when I’m running low. I used to use it daily, but since starting tretinoin, I’ve cut back Show more
After 1 use as exfoliating cleanser, my skin was badly dehydrated and flaky around the T-zone area. I don’t think im gonna use it again.
