Butylene Glycol (or BG) is used within cosmetic products for a few different reasons:

  • It is a solvent, meaning that it helps to dissolve other ingredients. This also enhances the absorption of the product into one's skin.
  • It is a humectant, which means that it helps attract moisture into the skin.
  • It helps improve product application.

Overall, Butylene Glycol is a safe and well-rounded ingredient. It is unlikely to irritate skin, and works well with pretty much all other ingredients.

Tirtir Mask Fit Tone Up Essence contains this as ingredient number 6.

Water. It's the most common cosmetic ingredient of all. You'll usually see it at the top of ingredient lists, meaning that it makes up the largest part of the product.

So why is it so popular? Water most often acts as a solvent - this means that it helps dissolve other ingredients into the formulation.

You'll also recognize water as that liquid we all need to stay alive. Talk about multi-purpose! If you see this, drink a glass of water. Stay hydrated!

1,2-Hexanediol is a multi-tasker ingredient. It acts as a preservative to increase shelf-life and can aid other preservatives in preventing microbe growth. 1,2-Hexanediol also helps the skin retain moisture as a humectant.

In products that are water-based, this ingredient can help stabilize perfumes and fragrances. It can also help make the texture of products softer and more smooth.

Sodium Hyaluronate is hyaluronic acid's salt form. It is commonly derived from the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid.

Like hyaluronic acid, it is great at holding water and acts as a humectant. This makes it a great skin hydrating ingredient.

Sodium Hyaluronate is naturally occurring in our bodies and is mostly found in eye fluid and joints.

These are some other common types of Hyaluronic Acid:

Adenosine is in every living organism. It is one of four components in nucleic acids that helps store our DNA.

Adenosine has many benefits when used. These benefits include hydrating the skin, smoothing skin, and reducing wrinkles. Once applied, adenosine increases collagen production. It also helps with improving firmness and tissue repair.

Studies have found adenosine may also help with wound healing.

In skincare products, Adenosine is usually derived from yeast.

There is actually some good research on snail mucin and I really like how it makes my skin feel. This brand is my favorite just because of the price, the pump delivery, and the added ingredients (the peptides are in small percentages but I just consider them a bonus to the snail mucin star ingredient).

I'm still on the fence about this product.

I bought it because I read that it worked really well under the viral red cushion from the same brand, but ended up loving neither. They both made my skin feel and look more dry than usual (I'm more of a combi girl who usually needs to retouch with powder throughout the day).

It's a tone up product as advertised so that aspect didn't surprise me, but tan and darker skin girlies beware because I'm a MAC N1-N2 and I felt a bit like a ghost using this. I also didn't love the strong fragrance.

I will have to try it under different types of foundations in order to make up my mind, but for now it doesn't seem to look particularly good.
