Ingredients Explained

These ingredients are found in both products.

Ingredients higher up in an ingredient list are typically present in a larger amount.

Solvent

Propanediol is an all-star ingredient. It softens, hydrates, and smooths the skin.

It’s often used to:

Propanediol is not likely to cause sensitivity and considered safe to use. It is derived from corn or petroleum with a clear color and no scent.

Humectant, Skin Conditioning

Betaine is a common humectant (a substance that promotes retention of moisture). It's known to be gentle on the skin and can help balance hydration.

This ingredient is best for improving hydration and soothing irritated skin. Studies also show it helps even out skin tone.

Fun fact: Betaine is naturally created in the skin and body. The kind found within cosmetic products can be either plant-derived or synthetic.

Skin Conditioning, Solvent

1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic liquid and another multi-functional powerhouse.

It is a:

  • Humectant, drawing moisture into the skin
  • Emollient, helping to soften skin
  • Solvent, dispersing and stabilizing formulas
  • Preservative booster, enhancing the antimicrobial activity of other preservatives
Skin Conditioning

Panthenol is a common ingredient that helps hydrate and soothe the skin. It is found naturally in our skin and hair.

There are two forms of panthenol: D and L.

D-panthenol is also known as dexpanthenol. Most cosmetics use dexpanthenol or a mixture of D and L-panthenol.

Panthenol is famous due to its ability to go deeper into the skin's layers. Using this ingredient has numerous pros (and no cons):

Like hyaluronic acid, panthenol is a humectant. Humectants are able to bind and hold large amounts of water to keep skin hydrated.

This ingredient works well for wound healing. It works by increasing tissue in the wound and helps close open wounds.

Once oxidized, panthenol converts to pantothenic acid. Panthothenic acid is found in all living cells.

This ingredient is also referred to as pro-vitamin B5.

TL;DR: Safe for sensitive and acne-prone skin. Expensive, but lasts me a long time. Doesn't pill.

I tried the moisturizer first, then bought this, and I think I like this more. I use this on rotation with my prescription actives, and it doesn't seem to irritate my skin. It also didn't break me out, which is amazing, and goes on smooth. It doesn't pill with my other products, and I've had this Show more

When I bought their moisturizer (which became my HG), it came with a sample of this. I used it up and immediately liked it enough to invest in a full size (invest bc this brand isn't cheap:/). I'm suprised both their products are THIS good, whoever formulates this is a genius.

This doesn't break me out, clog my pores, irritate me, nothing. It's FA safe. It hydrates my skin and makes it GLOWY. Show more

Update: I’ve begun breaking out on this, so docking a star because it was good to me for a long time otherwise.

TL;DR: Good moisturizer and Vit C serum in one. A little goes a long way. Can double as a moisturizer for all skin types.

I've used this on and off for about two years now, and the value is good as you only need 2 drops per dosage. It is priced at $62/100mL, so $0.62/mL. At first I Show more

Great product to boost your hydration level especially during winter. I think it should work on sensible skin also. It’s very gentle but at the same time it might be not enough as stand alone hydration product (dry skin + winters).
It has a lot of HA, so you better tap your face with water lightly before putting it on to make the best of it (or fine mist your face).
Great: that bottle can last Show more
