Ingredients Explained

These ingredients are found in both products.

Ingredients higher up in an ingredient list are typically present in a larger amount.

Skin Conditioning, Solvent

Water. It's the most common cosmetic ingredient of all. You'll usually see it at the top of ingredient lists, meaning that it makes up the largest part of the product.

So why is it so popular? Water most often acts as a solvent - this means that it helps dissolve other ingredients into the formulation.

You'll also recognize water as that liquid we all need to stay alive. If you see this, drink a glass of water. Stay hydrated!

Skin Conditioning

This synthetic peptide consists of glycine, histidine, and lysine. Peptides have skin conditioning properties.

This name refers to a group of Oligopeptide-1 derivatives, such as the famous Sh-Oligopeptide-1.

Humectant, Moisturising, Skin Conditioning

Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in healthy skin. It is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture to your skin.

This ingredient helps hydrate, soothe, and protect the skin.

What makes hyaluronic acid so hydrating? It has the capacity to bind or hold large amounts of water.

Fun fact: It is already naturally found in our bodies, such as the fluids of our eyes and our joints.

Studies find this ingredient to have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. This can help speed up wound-healing.

Hyaluronic acid can be irritating if the molecule has a low-molecular weight, or if the molecules are small.

One study found low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid to be pro-inflammatory, meaning some people may experience irritation. This is because our bodies use hyaluronic acid in the wound-healing process to signal to our bodies, via irritation, that something needs healing.

The same study found high-molecular weight hyaluronic acid to be anti-inflammatory.

These are some other common types of Hyaluronic Acid:

Moisturising, Skin Conditioning

Collagen is the most abundant type of structural protein found in your body. It is an effective skin moisturizer.

There is no conclusive proof that collagen is used by skin when applied topically. However, it is a great humectant that hydrates skin. Hydrated skin is associated with increased elasticity and a decrease in the appearance of wrinkles. It is also essential for maintaining a healthy skin barrier.

Biologically, collagen is responsible for keeping skin firm and youthful. Collagen is comprised mostly of glycine, proline, and hydroxypoline. These are amino acids.

Collagen will not increase sun sensitivity, but you should always wear sunscreen during the day.

Preservative

Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that has germicide, antimicrobial, and aromatic properties. Studies show that phenoxyethanol can prevent microbial growth. By itself, it has a scent that is similar to that of a rose.

It's often used in formulations along with Caprylyl Glycol to preserve the shelf life of products.

Underrated!! I struggle with closed comedones, and have had a hard time getting rid of them, but this really helped!! It also has a bunch of soothing ingredients. I recommend using it every other night, as the niacinamide concentration is 5%

I broke out in itchy, burning hives suddenly across my face, neck & chest. Not sure why yet; maybe something I ate! Layered this serum on under La Roche Posay Cicaplast and found some nice relief.

I LOVE this. So affordable. Merely looking at the INCI is a bliss, just green all around?? Yes please. I haven't tried a vitamin C serum before so I don't know how to compare but it feels very good on the skin! It's actually soothing - and I have very reactive, sensitive skin that doesn't like anything I buy. I use it on my undereye area mostly (since I'm on tretinoin and would like my face to get Show more

Bought it as I’ve heard great things about it and it’s quite cheap, sadly it didn’t work for me and irritated my skin; It may be the snail mucin bearing in mind my skin is ultra sensitive so it may still work for you
