Xanthan gum is used as a stabilizer and thickener within cosmetic products. It helps give products a sticky, thick feeling - preventing them from being too runny.

On the technical side of things, xanthan gum is a polysaccharide - a combination consisting of multiple sugar molecules bonded together.

Xanthan gum is a pretty common and great ingredient. It is a natural, non-toxic, non-irritating ingredient that is also commonly used in food products.

UPDATED REVIEW: unfortunately, this eventually started to break me out. I suspect butylene glycol and squalane being high in concentration is what gave me trouble. I have extremely sensitive and acne prone skin though, so I still stand by Purito as a brand and this particular product, it’s just not for me… *cries* I love how it made my skin glow aside from the breakouts. Just another note- it’s best to apply this to damp skin as it can feel sticky otherwise.

I like this moisturiser as it has minimal ingredients which is good for my acne prone, sensitive skin. It's better for me to use it at night as a soothing overnight cream as it can make my already oily skin look oilier. The only thing is I don't find it as hydrating as I'd like it to be but I guess that's the sacrifice I have to make for a moisturiser for it to have minimal ingredients! It's more hydrating when I use the Cosrx snail mucin essence before. I'm still on the hunt for the perfect moisturiser.
