Ingredients Explained

These ingredients are found in both products.

Ingredients higher up in an ingredient list are typically present in a larger amount.

Emollient, Humectant, Skin Conditioning

Caprylyl Glycol is a humectant and emollient, meaning it attracts and preserves moisture.

It is a common ingredient in many products, especially those designed to hydrate skin. The primary benefits are retaining moisture, skin softening, and promoting a healthy skin barrier.

Though Caprylyl Glycol is an alcohol derived from fatty acids, it is not the kind that can dry out skin.

This ingredient is also used as a preservative to extend the life of products. It has slight antimicrobial properties.

Skin Conditioning, Solvent

Water. It's the most common cosmetic ingredient of all. You'll usually see it at the top of ingredient lists, meaning that it makes up the largest part of the product.

So why is it so popular? Water most often acts as a solvent - this means that it helps dissolve other ingredients into the formulation.

You'll also recognize water as that liquid we all need to stay alive. If you see this, drink a glass of water. Stay hydrated!

Humectant, Skin Conditioning

Sodium Hyaluronate is hyaluronic acid's salt form. It is commonly derived from the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid.

Like hyaluronic acid, it is great at holding water and acts as a humectant. This makes it a great skin hydrating ingredient.

Sodium Hyaluronate is naturally occurring in our bodies and is mostly found in eye fluid and joints.

These are some other common types of Hyaluronic Acid:

I fell for the promise of no white cast :( definitely noticeable on darker skin. So far oil is controlled, as usually 1-2 hours after my morning routine, I'm a little greaseball. But skin is currently very matte which explains the 2 stars instead of 0. This moisturizer might be best used for when makeup will be applied on top (it's giving milk of magnesia). I will try it again with makeup, but on Show more

Really wanted to love this moisturizer but it was a flop for me. Right off the bat, the scent makes you think something is off about the product and lingers on your skin for a while. It also stung quite badly after each application and made me break out. Might not be suitable if your skin does not tolerate high concentrations of niacinamide. The only good thing about this is the texture, which Show more

I really wanted to love this product but it was so so so irritating. It has a chemical smell but that wasn’t my main problem. This moisturizer burns!! My skin was so red, hot and would stay that way till I fanned my face.
