Ingredients Explained
These ingredients are found in both products.
Ingredients higher up in an ingredient list are typically present in a larger amount.
Water. It's the most common cosmetic ingredient of all. You'll usually see it at the top of ingredient lists, meaning that it makes up the largest part of the product.
So why is it so popular? Water most often acts as a solvent - this means that it helps dissolve other ingredients into the formulation.
You'll also recognize water as that liquid we all need to stay alive. If you see this, drink a glass of water. Stay hydrated!
Learn more about WaterSorbitol is a sugar alcohol. It is a hydrating and moisturizing agent created from the reduction process of glucose.
Most sorbitol is usually made from potato starch. It is also found in fruits such as apples and pears.
As a humectant, Sorbitol helps draw water to the skin. This helps keep the skin hydrated. Sorbitol also helps create a thicker texture in products. You might find sorbitol in your toothpaste and other gels.
It is a non-irritating ingredient that is great for those with dry skin.
Sorbitol is a prebiotic. It helps promote the growth of healthy bacteria on your skin. The bacteria on your skin form a microbiome. This microbiome helps protect your skin from infection and harmful bacteria.
Learn more about SorbitolChances are, you eat sodium chloride every day. Sodium Chloride is also known as table salt.
This ingredient has many purposes in skincare: thickener, emulsifier, and exfoliator.
You'll most likely find this ingredient in cleansers where it is used to create a gel-like texture. As an emulsifier, it also prevents ingredients from separating.
There is much debate on whether this ingredient is comedogenic. The short answer - comedogenic ratings don't tell the whole story. Learn more about comegodenic ratings here.
The concensus about this ingredient causing acne seems to be divided. Research is needed to understand if this ingredient does cause acne.
Scrubs may use salt as the primary exfoliating ingredient.
Learn more about Sodium ChlorideSodium Hydroxide is also known as lye or caustic soda. It is used to adjust the pH of products; many ingredients require a specific pH to be effective.
In small amounts, sodium hydroxide is considered safe to use. However, large amounts may cause chemical burns due to its high alkaline.
Your skin has a natural pH and acid mantle. This acid mantle helps prevent harmful bacteria from breaking through. The acid mantle also helps keep your skin hydrated.
"Alkaline" refers to a high pH level. A low pH level would be considered acidic.

I use this product twice a week as an exfoliating mask. My combination skin is loving this product. Clearing up the skin but I will say that if you have sensitive skin it will be too much. A bit hard to wash it. It has a bit minty feeling afterwards but I’m loving it.

It definitely works, you will purge first (break out) but after a month your skin will start to clear up. Not made for long term use, I made that mistake and destroyed my skin barrier.

Just bought my 5th bottle!
This is possibly my most repurchased product. Benzoyl peroxide is a fantastic ingredient to fight the bacteria that causes acne but it can be so drying. I consider my skin to be combination because I’m acne prone, but I defiantly lean dry and it’s hard to find products that cater to both acne prone and dry skin. Unlike many BP products I’ve tried, this cleanser does NOT cause me to become a raisin but still combats my acne. I highly recommend this for dry acne prone skin! It’s a creamy, scentless, non-foaming formula, and it’s enjoyable to massage into skin. Some dry skinned people may still struggle a bit, so here’s a few tips that I’ve found to help me to not dry out my skin during my cleansing step. 1. Start with an oil cleanser (even if you aren’t wearing makeup) to gently buff away dry/flakey skin. It’s gentler on your skin to use an oil to soften and buff away flakey skin rather than accidentally rubbing too harshly with a scrub or cleanser. 2. You can use your favorite hydrating cleanser after this BP wash if you find that this one alone is still to drying (I like the Hero Cosmetics Gentle Milky Cleanser) 3. After you wash off your cleanser, apply a simple hydrating serum or essence onto damp skin (look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, polyglutamic acid, or any other humectants you enjoy) to avoid that tight skin feeling that can occur after cleansing. Wait for this to absorb before moving onto the next step of your routine.
