What it does: Humectant, Masking, Skin Conditioning, Solvent
Community Rating: Mixed

Butylene Glycol (or BG) is used within cosmetic products for a few different reasons:

  • It is a solvent, meaning that it helps to dissolve other ingredients. This also enhances the absorption of the product into one's skin.
  • It is a humectant, which means that it helps attract moisture into the skin.
  • It helps improve product application.

Overall, Butylene Glycol is a safe and well-rounded ingredient. It is unlikely to irritate skin, and works well with pretty much all other ingredients.

Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel contains this as ingredient number 4.

Etude House Soon Jung Moist Relief All In One Gel contains this as ingredient number 8.

I did not like this at all, this dried out my skin immediately, that it felt so tight. I have very oily skin and I had to put another moisturiser on top it was that try. I also did not like the smell either, I don't like fragrances anyway however, this smelt bad like cat pee! I know Aloe is known to have a smell but this was slightly different. The smell also lingered on my face under my sunscreen all day. I will never use this again.

This is the best moisturizer I've ever used. My skin is super oily, and I live in a very humid area (sometimes 98%). No matter which moisturizer I use, if I apply more than a tiny amount, I look like I haven't washed my face or like I've...

This is the best moisturizer I've ever used. My skin is super oily, and I live in a very humid area (sometimes 98%). No matter which moisturizer I use, if I apply more than a tiny amount, I look like I haven't washed my face or like I've been sweating. But this one feels lightweight because it gets absorbed very quickly and doesn't leave any oily, creamy, or sticky residue. It has a transparent gel texture, and I didn't notice any specific smell. Even if I use a drying face wash, it still is moisturizing enough. Overall, I only recommend it if your skin is actually very oily.

Amazing super light and very soothing moisturizer, I would only recommend if you have super oily skin and even then I would use a hydrating tonner/essence and serum before hand.
