Citric Acid is an AHA derived from citrus fruits (think oranges, lemons, and limes!).

If you spot Citric Acid near the end of an ingredient list, it's likely there as a pH adjuster rather than an active ingredient.

As an AHA, Citric Acid removes the top layer of skin cells from the newer layer of skin underneath. This helps skin to remove dark spots and look more even.

I love this stuff.
Adorable brown bottle (if you're into brown) full of magic. Used up two bottles as a head-to-toe cleanser and it was instrumental in helping me initially clear my fungal acne. Saw vast improvements while using this gentle formula, in addition to eliminating other FA triggers from my routine. As a neat bonus, my hair loved this stuff too, and was silky and smooth after washing. I did eventually discontinue use because I'm no longer actively treating breakouts, and I'm somewhat wary of the environmental safety of the active ingredient, zinc pyrithione. I'll definitely repurchase and reassume use if my fungal acne ever flairs up in a bad way again though.
