Ingredients Explained

These ingredients are found in both products.

Ingredients higher up in an ingredient list are typically present in a larger amount.

Preservative

Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that has germicide, antimicrobial, and aromatic properties. Studies show that phenoxyethanol can prevent microbial growth. By itself, it has a scent that is similar to that of a rose.

It's often used in formulations along with Caprylyl Glycol to preserve the shelf life of products.

Skin Conditioning

Ethylhexylglycerin (we can't pronounce this either) is commonly used as a preservative and skin softener. It is derived from glyceryl.

You might see Ethylhexylglycerin often paired with other preservatives such as phenoxyethanol. Ethylhexylglycerin has been found to increase the effectiveness of these other preservatives.

I got a sample in a Liberty drop box and I was surprised how much I liked it. Hydrated my face and add some luminosity. Very liquid, to tricky not to waste it when applying.

Honestly I don't know what it is that makes it so good. Is it the mixture of fermented rice, green tea and algae? Maybe. Is it because these ingredients are allowed to ferment twice? Maybe. Or is it my belief that applying such an expensive product consistently over a long period of time simply MUST do something super special to my skin? Again, maybe. I've been using it for almost a year and Show more

Nice essence with unique ferments & slight viscosity. I prefer SK-II for tone & especially dullness, but also use Tatcha because it’s more hydrating & helps texture. I’ve tried just using SK-II alone, but needed the Tatcha for hydration & texture.

Those first starting tret, be advised. This stung at first. But I’ve been tolerating it well for a while.

I also wish Tatcha would sell refills in Show more
