Understanding Unopened, In Use & Empties

Last updated 5 days ago

The Unopened, In Use, and Empties tabs help you organize your skincare collection based on a product's expiration tracking status. These tabs are managed automatically, so you don't need to move products between them yourself.

The steps in this article are the same on the SkinSort app and web, although the interface may differ slightly.

How to access these tabs
1. Go to Shelves
2. Click your Owned shelf
3. Here you can see the In Use, Unopened, and Empties tabs.

What each tab means
Unopened
This tab contains products you own that aren't currently being tracked for expiration.

By default, any product you add to your Owned shelf will appear here until you start expiration tracking.

In Use
This tab contains products with expiration tracking enabled. To learn how to enable expiration tracking, see How to Track a Product's Expiration.

When you start tracking a product's expiration, it automatically moves from Unopened to In Use. SkinSort uses this information to calculate when your product expires and send reminders.

Empties
This tab contains products you've marked as finished.

Think of it as your skincare history that keeps a record of products you've used up over time.

If you purchase and finish the same product multiple times, it can appear in Empties more than once, allowing you to keep track of each use separately.

How products move between tabs
Products are automatically moved between tabs based on their expiration tracking status.

  • When you add a product to the Owned shelf: It will appear in Unopened.
  • When you start expiration tracking: The product moves from Unopened to In Use.
  • When you mark a product as finished: The product moves from In Use to Empties.
  • When you stop expiration tracking: The product moves from In Use back to Unopened.

Can I move products between tabs manually?
No. The tabs are automatically managed based on a product's expiration tracking status.

However, you can change a product's status by updating its expiration tracking.
