Understanding Product Match Scores

Your Match Score shows how well a skincare product matches your unique skin profile.
As you use SkinSort, your Match Scores become more personalized. Every product you like, ingredient you avoid, and preference you add helps us better understand what works for your skin.
Note: Match Scores are currently available for skincare products only.
What do the Match Score labels mean?
Along with your score out of 100, you'll see one of four match labels.
Perfect Match (95–100)
This product closely aligns with your skin profile, concerns, and preferences.
Good Match (75–94)
A strong match that suits your skin well, though it may not check every box.
Fair Match (60–74)
The product has a mix of strengths and trade-offs for your skin.
Poor Match (0–59)
The formula has several factors that don't align with your profile or preferences.
These labels are designed to help you compare products at a glance. A lower score doesn't necessarily mean a product is bad. It simply means it may not be the best fit based on what SkinSort currently knows about your skin.
Understanding your Match Score
We've updated Match Scores to make it easier to understand why a product received its score.
In addition to your overall score, you'll now see personalized insights that explain what contributed to it. This is shown below the product match score.
- Depending on the product, these may include:
- Excellent fit for your skin goals
- Similar to a product you've liked
- Contains ingredients you love
- No major concerns
- Ingredients from your avoid list
- Potential irritants based on your profile
The insights shown will vary from product to product and are personalized to your SkinSort profile.
How your Match Score is calculated
Your Match Score is based on two things: the product itself and your SkinSort profile.
We evaluate how well the formula suits your skin type, whether it contains ingredients backed by research for your selected concerns, and whether it includes ingredients that may be irritating or conflict with your preferences.
Moreover, your profile helps personalize every Match Score. Products may receive a higher score if they contain ingredients you've marked as favorites or are similar to products you've liked. Likewise, products may receive a lower score if they contain ingredients on your avoid list or resemble products you've disliked.
The more feedback you share with SkinSort, the better your Match Scores become over time.
Why does a product I love have a low Match Score?
This is completely normal.
A Match Score is based on a product's ingredient list and the information you've shared with SkinSort. While ingredients tell us a lot, they can't tell the whole story. Factors like ingredient concentrations, formulation, and your skin's individual needs can all influence how a product performs.
If you've found a product that works well for you despite a lower Match Score, add it to your Liked Products. This helps SkinSort better understand your preferences and improve future recommendations.
A few things to keep in mind
Your Match Score is designed to help you make more informed skincare decisions, not predict exactly how your skin will react to a product.
No algorithm can guarantee whether a product will work for everyone. Think of your Match Score as a guide that becomes more accurate as SkinSort learns what your skin likes.
