How to Track Product Expiry
Last updated 12 days ago
Skincare products don't last forever once they're opened. Over time, they can become less effective and may lose their stability. That's why SkinSort lets you track a product's Period After Opening (PAO), so you'll always know when it's time to replace it.
What is Period After Opening (PAO)?
Period After Opening (PAO) is the amount of time a product remains safe and effective after it has been opened.
You can usually find the PAO on the product packaging as an open jar icon with a number followed by the letter M, for example:
6M – Good for 6 months after opening
12M – Good for 12 months after opening
24M – Good for 24 months after opening
Once you record when you opened a product, SkinSort uses its PAO to automatically calculate its expiry date.
How to track a product's expiry
On the SkinSort Web:
1. Click Shelves.
2. Open your Owned shelf.
3. Select the product you'd like to track and click Track Expiration.
4. Record the date you opened the product by choosing Today, Yesterday, or a Specific Date.
5. Enter the product's PAO (for example, 12M or 24M) from its packaging.
6. Click Start Tracking.
On the SkinSort App:
1. Tap Shelves.
2. Open your Owned shelf.
3. Select the product you'd like to track and tap Track Expiration.
4. Record the date you opened the product by choosing Today, Yesterday, or a Specific Date.
5. Enter the product's PAO (for example, 12M or 24M) from its packaging.
6. Tap Start Tracking.
Once you've added the opening date and PAO, SkinSort will automatically calculate the expiry date and display it beneath the product on your Owned shelf.
Expiry reminders

- 14 days before a product expires
- On the day it expires
You can receive reminders through:
- Push notifications
- In-app notifications
You can manage your notification preferences at any time in your SkinSort Settings.
Can I edit the opening date or PAO later?
Yes. You can update the opening date or PAO at any time. If you make any changes, SkinSort will automatically recalculate the product's expiry date.
