Skincare products on SkinSort are organized into different categories based on their primary use and purpose. These categories help you filter products more effectively, explore alternatives, and discover new products to add to your routine.
Below are the skincare product categories on SkinSort:
Cleansers
- Makeup Removers - These are designed to remove makeup, sunscreen, and surface impurities and include micellar water, cleansing balms, and cleansing oils.
- Face cleansers - These are used to cleanse the skin as part of a daily routine, such as gel, foam, cream, oil, and powder cleansers.
- Exfoliators - These remove dead skin cells. It may be physical exfoliants or chemical exfoliants.
- Toners - These are applied after cleansing. Toners may be formulated for hydrating, soothing, exfoliating, or balancing the skin.
Masks
- Wash Off Masks - These masks are applied to the skin and rinsed off after several minutes.
- Sheet Masks - These are fabric masks soaked in essence and applied to the face for a short period.
- Overnight Masks - Leave-on masks are applied as the last step of a nighttime routine and washed off in the morning.
Treatments:
- Essences - Lightweight products often focused on hydration, skin preparation, and barrier support.
- Ampoules - Highly concentrated treatments designed to address specific skin concerns.
- Serums - These are lightweight, concentrated formulas targeting specific concerns.
- Facial Treatments - These are targeted treatment products not classified strictly as serums or ampoules.
- Emulsions - These are lightweight water-based moisturizing lotions, lighter than moisturizing creams.
Moisturizers:
- Facial Oils - Oil-based products designed to moisturize, nourish, and support the skin barrier.
- General Moisturizers - These are moisturizers that can be used day or night.
- Day Moisturizers - These moisturizers are formulated for daytime wear.
- Night Moisturizers - These moisturizers are designed for overnight use.
Sunscreens -
These products protect the skin against UV damage. Sunscreens may contain mineral or chemical UV filters.
Eye Care
- Eye Moisturizers - These are moisturizers formulated specifically for the delicate eye area.

Some products may overlap categories depending on their formulation and function.
At this time, SkinSort supports only one category per product. Our team determines category placement based on the product’s primary purpose, how it is used, and how the brand categorizes it.
How to Filter by Category
To view products from a specific category:
1. Click or tap the Filter button beside the search bar.
2. Scroll down to Category.
3. Select your desired product category.
4. Click or tap Search.
