Hypochlorous Acid is created from dissolving chlorine in water. It is a weak acid that has antimicrobial properties. Due to its ability to kill bacteria, it can be used to treat acne. We recommend speaking with a professional if you have any concerns or questions.
Hypochlorous Acid naturally exists in our bodies. It is created by white blood cells to protect us from infections and bacteria.
Chances are, you eat sodium chloride every day. Sodium Chloride is also known as table salt.
This ingredient has many purposes in skincare: thickener, emulsifier, and exfoliator.
You'll most likely find this ingredient in cleansers where it is used to create a gel-like texture. As an emulsifier, it also prevents ingredients from separating.
There is much debate on whether this ingredient is comedogenic. The short answer - comedogenic ratings don't tell the whole story. Learn more about comegodenic ratings here.
The concensus about this ingredient causing acne seems to be divided. Research is needed to understand if this ingredient does cause acne.
Scrubs may use salt as the primary exfoliating ingredient.

Essential oils from chamomile have been found to improve wound healing due to its antimicrobial properties.
Chamomile is rich in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. Several compounds found in chamomile help with soothing, such as bisbolol.

This ingredient helps hydrate, soothe, and protect the skin.
What makes hyaluronic acid so hydrating? It has the capacity to bind or hold large amounts of water.
Fun fact: It is already naturally found in our bodies, such as the fluids of our eyes and our joints.
Studies find this ingredient to have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. This can help speed up wound-healing.
Hyaluronic acid can be irritating if the molecule has a low-molecular weight, or if the molecules are small.
One study found low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid to be pro-inflammatory, meaning some people may experience irritation. This is because our bodies use hyaluronic acid in the wound-healing process to signal to our bodies, via irritation, that something needs healing.
The same study found high-molecular weight hyaluronic acid to be anti-inflammatory.
These are some other common types of Hyaluronic Acid:

Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract comes from the Goji Berry. Goji berries are native to China and can be found across Eurasia.
Goji berries contain polysaccharides, carotenoids and flavonoids. Antioxidants help your body fight off free-radical molecules. These molecules are unstable and may damage your skin. By making free-radicals more stable, antioxidants can help with anti-aging.
Polysaccharides help hydrate the top layer of skin due to its ability to mimic natural carbohydrates.
Learn more about Lycium Barbarum Fruit ExtractTrehalose is a disaccharide made of two glucose molecules (glucose is sugar!). Trehalose is used to help moisturize skin. It also has antioxidant properties.
As a humectant, trehalose helps draw moisture from the air to your skin. This helps keep your skin hydrated.
Due to its antioxidant properties, trehalose may help with signs of aging. Antioxidants help fight free-radical molecules, unstable molecules that may damage your skin.
In medicine, trehalose and hyaluronic acid are used to help treat dry eyes.
Some animals, plants, and bacteria create trehalose as a source of energy to survive freeze or lack of water.

Glycerin is already naturally found in your skin. It helps moisturize and protect your skin.
A study from 2016 found glycerin to be more effective as a humectant than AHAs and hyaluronic acid.
As a humectant, it helps the skin stay hydrated by pulling moisture to your skin. The low molecular weight of glycerin allows it to pull moisture into the deeper layers of your skin.
Hydrated skin improves your skin barrier; Your skin barrier helps protect against irritants and bacteria.
Glycerin has also been found to have antimicrobial and antiviral properties. Due to these properties, glycerin is often used in wound and burn treatments.
In cosmetics, glycerin is usually derived from plants such as soybean or palm. However, it can also be sourced from animals, such as tallow or animal fat.
This ingredient is organic, colorless, odorless, and non-toxic.
Glycerin is the name for this ingredient in American English. British English uses Glycerol/Glycerine.
Learn more about GlycerinWater. It's the most common cosmetic ingredient of all. You'll usually see it at the top of ingredient lists, meaning that it makes up the largest part of the product.
So why is it so popular? Water most often acts as a solvent - this means that it helps dissolve other ingredients into the formulation.
You'll also recognize water as that liquid we all need to stay alive. If you see this, drink a glass of water. Stay hydrated!

Hypochlorous Acid is a HOLY GRAIL ingredient!
This spray has helped treat both my acne and eczema! The antimicrobial properties of hypochlorous acid are amazing!
There are several different hypochlorous acid sprays on the market (many of which are quite similar) so I personally don’t think you could really go wrong with any of them, however here are a few reasons why this Base Laboratories spray is my go to.
1) The size. You get 8oz of product so this will last you awhile (for comparison, the Tower 28 spray is only 4oz). 2) The price. As of writing this review, this spray is only $13! 3) The added ingredients. Every other hypochlorous acid spray that I’ve seen has an extremely simple ingredient list. That may be helpful for someone with sensitive skin, but that’s not me. I appreciate the addition of ingredients like hyaluronic acid and chamomile (plus I suspect that these added ingredient help to cover the bleach smell some people complain about when it comes to hypochlorous acid sprays. This product has a very subtle nice smell). 4) The concentration. According to the ingredient list on the back of my box, this contains 0.02% hypochlorous acid. Every other spray that I’ve seen usually only has concentrations of 0.01% or 0.015%. 5) The packaging. Ok, packaging isn’t that important but I’ve just gotta say it… like every other affordable spray out there is ugly. The packaging is so boring and/or medical looking. I like that this spray comes in a pink can! It’s cute!
If you struggle with acne, eczema, or rosacea, I highly recommend you try a product with hypochlorous acid. This powerhouse ingredients can help treat several skin concerns while still being gentle on skin. I LOVE IT!

This is my first Hypocholous Acid product, so I'm not sure if my opinion is based in that particular ingredient or the product as a whole, but I have to admit it has worked wonders on my skin.
I've been using Azelaic Acid products for my rosacea and my acne for a very long time, and honestly, this works even better when it comes to reducing my redness: Results show almost immediately after the first use, and they get better when using it overtime.
It's also good for milder acne types, as it disinfects the skin and kills all the bacteria, I've found it to be the perfect final step of my cleansing routine. And although it obviously doesn't work as good for hormonal acne, at least it reduces the inflammation a little, and the super lightweight texture matches my very oily skin. It's also non-comedogenic.
I've also found it to be great for other purposes aside from skincare such as wound-healing (my mom borrowed it to heal a cut from a domestic accident and she loved how hydrating and soothing it felt), helps with itchiness (and mosquito bites too!) and also eccema (as I got one on the recent days and it got rid of it very easily).
The price is also great: You get a considerably larger amount than similar products from other brands and just for half the price (around 15€). And the diffuser creates a very fine mist (you don't need more than that) that will make the product last forever. However, I will love it if they made a smaller travel version to carry in my purse. I know the brand has wipes with the same formula but there aren't sold in Spain.
Overall: I highly recommend it for any skin type, as it not only has great skincare benefits but can also work as a medical product for many other purposes.
