What is the skincare dupe finder tool

The Skincare Dupe Finder is a tool created by SkinSort to help you discover products with similar ingredients, functions, or a more affordable alternative to your holy grails.

In skincare, a “dupe” refers to a product with highly similar ingredients or attributes to another one. Think of it as a close match that may work just as well for your skin and your budget.

We built this tool to make your skincare journey simpler, especially when a product gets discontinued or becomes too pricey to keep up with.

How does it work?

SkinSort’s algorithm looks at two main factors: ingredient similarity and attribute similarity.

Ingredients tell a lot about what makes products comparable. But looking only at the ingredient list has limitations. Different formulas can use slightly different ingredients that serve the same purpose. That’s why SkinSort also analyzes product attributes.

By combining these two layers of insight, we generate a list of possible dupes.

How to use the skincare dupe finder?

On the SkinSort Website
1. Click Tools on the nav bar.
2. Select Skincare Dupes.
3. Click the Start finding dupes button.
4. Search for the product you want.
5. Select the product.
6. You can also find dupes directly from a product page by clicking Find dupes below the ingredient list.

On the SkinSort App:
1. Open a product page.
2. In the product page, tap Find dupes below the ingredient list.

Your dupe results will show a quick roundup, including: the product with the most similar ingredients, the product most often compared, and the product most liked by the community.

You can continue scrolling to view a full breakdown, along with:

• Ingredient match percentage
• Attribute match percentage
• Number of shared ingredients
• Benefits
• Price comparisons

You can also bookmark your results for easy reference later.

If you know a dupe that isn’t appearing, it’s likely that the product isn’t in our database yet. You can submit it through our Product Submission Form.
