How to set your ingredient preferences

Last updated 18 days ago

Everyone’s skin is different. To help you keep track of ingredients you prefer, avoid, or want to watch, SkinSort lets you set ingredient preferences in your account.

Once added, these ingredients will be highlighted across product pages. Liked ingredients appear in green, disliked ingredients appear in red, while watched ingredients appear in orange.

You can manage these preferences on both the SkinSort website and the SkinSort App.

Here’s how to do it:

On the SkinSort Website

  1. Click your profile icon at the top right corner.
  2. Click Skin Profile.
  3. Under Skin Profile, you can go to any of the following tabs:
  • Avoided Ingredients for ingredients you prefer to avoid.
  • Watched Ingredients for those you want to keep an eye on. They do not affect product match scores.
  • Liked Ingredients for ingredients that work well for you.

Managing Avoided Ingredients:

  • You can choose from our Prebuilt Avoid List (EU Allergens, Fungal Acne Triggers, Oils, Silicones, Fragrances, Harsh Alcohols, Parabens, and Sulfates), then click Save.
  • To add your own ingredients, search for the ingredient name, and click Save.

Managing Watched Ingredients:

  • Search for the ingredient to watch.

Managing Liked Ingredients:

  • Search for the ingredient you want to add.

On the SkinSort App

  1. Tap Community on the tab bar.
  2. Tap your profile icon on the top right corner.
  3. Tap Skin Profile.

Managing Avoided Ingredients:

  • You can select from the same Prebuilt Avoid List and then tap Save.
  • To add your own ingredients, tap Custom Avoided Ingredients, search for the ingredient, then Save.

Managing Watched Ingredients:

  • Tap Add.
  • Search for the ingredient.
  • Tap Save.

Managing Liked Ingredients:

  • Tap Add.
  • Search for the ingredient.
  • Tap Save.

Adding Ingredients From a Product Page
You can also add ingredients directly to your ingredient preference lists while browsing products:

  1. Click or tap any ingredient in a product’s ingredient list.
  2. You will be taken to that ingredient’s page.
  3. Click or tap Set preference and choose either loved, watched, or avoided.
  4. The ingredient will automatically be added to your corresponding preference list.

How Ingredient Preferences Help You
Your liked, watched, and avoided ingredients are highlighted across product pages in the site and app. This makes it easier to scan ingredient lists quickly, identify products that may suit your skin, and avoid known irritants or triggers.
