What is the Pore Clogging Checker?

Last updated 8 days ago

Wondering if a skincare product contains ingredients that may clog pores? SkinSort's Pore Clogging Checker lets you quickly check an ingredient list for potentially pore-clogging ingredients.

How It Works
Comedogenic ratings indicate how likely an ingredient is to clog pores. The scale ranges from 0 to 5:
0 – Non-comedogenic
1 – Low likelihood
2–3 – Moderate likelihood
4–5 – High likelihood

These ratings can be a helpful starting point when evaluating a skincare product. SkinSort's Pore Clogging Checker flags ingredients with a comedogenic rating of 2 or higher.

How to Access the Pore Clogging Checker

  1. Visit the SkinSort website and scroll to the footer of the page.
  2. Under Tools, click Pore Clogging Checker.
  3. Or you can go directly to the URL https://skinsort.com/pore-clogging-checker.
  4. Paste the product's ingredient list into the checker.
  5. Click Check for pore clogging ingredients.

Alternatively, you can upload a photo of the product's ingredient list, and SkinSort will analyze it for you.

You can also find a complete list of pore-clogging ingredients below the checker if you'd like to browse the ingredients and their ratings.

Understanding Your Results
After checking an ingredient list, SkinSort will show:

  • The number of pore-clogging ingredients found in the product.
  • A matched product, if SkinSort can identify the product based on the ingredient list.
  • A breakdown of all ingredients found in the ingredient list, including which ones have a comedogenic rating of 2 or higher.

This makes it easier to see which specific ingredients contributed to the result rather than simply labeling the entire product as "pore clogging."

A Note About Comedogenic Ratings
Comedogenic ratings can be useful, but they don't tell the whole story.

Most comedogenicity ratings come from studies of individual ingredients under specific testing conditions. In real skincare products, factors such as the concentration of an ingredient, the overall formulation, how the product is used, and your individual skin can all affect whether a product actually causes clogged pores.

For this reason, SkinSort's Pore Clogging Checker should be used as a starting point for product research, rather than a definitive prediction of whether a product will clog your pores.
