Mauritia Flexuosa Fruit Oil
Oil
Oil is a hydrophobic (water-repelling) substance that can help regulate sebum production in skincare.
Can worsen Seborrheic Dermatitis
Some ingredients are known to be potential triggers for seborrheic dermatitis. However, triggers vary greatly between individuals. Keep a diary to identify your personal triggers and work with a dermatologist to develop a gentle, effective routine.
May feed Fungal Acne
Non-fungal acne-safe products contain ingredients that can worsen fungal acne. If you suspect fungal acne, consult a dermatologist for proper diagnosis.
Explained
This oil comes from the pulp of the buriti palm fruit. It's made mostly of oleic acid (~65-90%) with palmitic acid as the second biggest component, then some carotenoids and vitamin E.
This is why it's often marketed as an antioxidant-rich and moisturizing oil.
Because it's dominated by oleic acid, this ingredient may not be fungal acne safe as the Malassezia yeast has been shown to feed on it.
