Who made this site?
Hey! We're Genne and Jacob, the two people who made this site.
Check out our more detailed about page to learn more about us 😊
Who is this site for?
SkinSort is for anyone who loves skincare!
No matter what stage of your skincare journey you're in, we want you to feel at home while using SkinSort.
Our tools and community can be used by anyone to better understand their skincare products and work towards their dream skin.
How do I add products to my routine?
You can add products to your your routine by clicking the AM, PM or AM + PM buttons on any product.
After you've clicked the button you want, the product will be added to it's respective location on the current routine you are working on.
How can I change the frequency of use of a product?
You can select a frequency of use for any product you've added to your routine. By default, we set it to Daily.
If you wish to change it, click the frequency dropdown and select something else! It's as easy as that.
How do product compatibility warnings work?
Our Routine Creator uses an algorithm to detect if there are any potential incompatibilites with the products that you've added to your routine.
We currently display warnings for combinations such as Vitamin C + AHA/BHA, Retinol + AHA/BHA, AHA + BHA, Benzoyl Peroxide + Vitamin C, and Benzoyl Peroxide + Retinoid.
The warnings don't consider every single product in a routine (it's unlikely that you are combining a lip mask with anything else, for example). They also won't display if a single product contains a flagged combination, as we assume that the manufacturer has formlated it correctly.
Warnings are meant to be a tool to help you figure out what could be causing issues with your routine - they are not rules saying that you cannot use any two products together. Everybody's skin is different!
Can I use the Routine Creator without an account?
You can use our Routine Creator without creating an account.
However, we strongly suggest creating an account so that you retain access to routines you create. Guest users can only create one routine, and it is stored locally in your browser. If you switch devices or clear your cache, you might permenantly lose access to your routine.
How can I add a missing product?
We've tried to add as many products as possible to SkinSort, but we rely on our community to help us with ones that we've missed!
You can submit a missing product here. We really appreciate product submissions, and approve it as soon as possible.
How can I add a missing brand?
I've spotted an error with a product's data!
We are always working to fix any errors in our product data! Please send what you've found to [email protected] and we'll get it fixed ASAP.
We really appreciate any error reports!
How do you determine what a product is good and bad for?
We've read a ton of peer-reviewed studies to select the ingredients that our algorithms assign attributes based on.
When we add a new product to our database, our algorithms scan it's ingredients to determine all of its attributes. If you think you've spotted an error with the ingredients we use to categorize certain things, feel free to get in touch!
You can check out our research library to see some of the sources we used.
How do you determine if a brand is cruelty free?
We use two sources: Leaping Bunny, which is the only international symbol for cruelty-free products.
Our second source was Suzana Rose from Cruelty-Free Kitty's complete list of Cruelty-Free brands.
Both sources have conducted research to ensure brands are not being listed as cruelty-free through loopholes and thus have stringent standards.
If you notice an error in our data, please get in touch!
I can't seem to find X ingredient
Our Ingredient Database has tens of thousands of skincare ingredients, but it's impossible for us to track every single one out there! If you think we're missing an ingredient, please let us know: [email protected]
It's also possible that the ingredient is listed under a different name. Our matching algorithms do their best to handle this (for example, Aqua and Water should be marked as the same ingredient), but there's always a chance that we missed it. Anyways, let us know and we'll get back to you!
What happens when I publish my routine or shelf?
Publishing your skincare routine or product shelf will display it on our community page.
Other SkinSort users will be able to view and comment on what you've posted. This is a great way to recieve feedback on your routine!
How can I share a link to my routine or shelf?
We've tried to make it as simple as possible to share routines and shelves that you create on our site.
Simply view the routine (or shelf) that you want to share, and copy the 'Shareable Link' that is visible near the top of the page.
Shareable links are a permenant way to access a shelf - so you can even link to them in your blog posts or comments you write on other sites.
How can I post my routine on Reddit?
Sharing your SkinSort routine on Reddit is easy!
After you've finished working on your routine, hit the 'Export' button near the top of the page. Next, select the 'Reddit' button.
Copy-paste the Reddit markup that we generate and paste it into a Reddit post or comment! It'll display a nicely formatted table containing all of the products in your routine.
How can download an image of my routine?
We've made it simple to download a beautiful image of your skincare routine. You can print it out as a reminder or even post it to your social media!
After you've finished working on your routine, hit the 'Export' button near the top of the page. Next, select the format you want (we currently support Instagram Stories - more coming soon!).
Then, you can choose if you want to export just your morning or evening products, or the entire routine. Select a background for the image, and hit 'Download'! Your downloadable routine image will be generated right away.
Why should I create an account?
Creating an account on SkinSort allows you to create multiple routines and product shelves, as well as like and dislike specific ingredients.
Your account also lets you write product reviews, publish your routines/shelves to the SkinSort community, and to write comments on items that other users publish.
Is it free to create an account?
Yep! Creating an account is completely free.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account by clicking 'Edit Details' on your profile and scrolling down to the bottom of the page.
Account deletion is permenant - we will delete any data associated with your account, and it cannot be undone.
Let us know if there's anything we can do to improve your SkinSort experience before you delete your account!
