Phyllostachys Pubescens Shoot Bark Extract

Explained

This ingredient is also known as moso bamboo shoot skin (or bark) extract. It's a skin conditioning agent that has antioxidant, soothing, and mild astringent compounds.

In vitro studies found that both the crude extract and isolate compounds downregulated inflammatory markers in cell models.

There's also some early evidence for brightening; some isolates from bamboo peel significantly suppressed melanin production compared to control. Other compounds were also found to boost collagen and hyaluronic acid production.

Its dichloromethane extract has also demonstrated antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.

Just know most of the research so far is preclinical and more clinical trials are needed to confirm these effects in real-world cosmetic use.

At this time, there's no harm in adding it to your routine as a supportive ingredient.
