Isostearyl Neopentanoate

Isostearyl Neopentanoate is a lab made emollient that makes products feel silky and dry rather than greasy, helps pigments spread evenly, and holds pressed powders together.

Most reported products use it in the 5-10% or 1-5% range, though it can go as high as 50% as an emollient.

This ingredient does have a comedogenic rating of 3, but this doesn’t mean a formula with this ingredient will clog pores. Human testing has proved that any finished product with this ingredient won’t automatically make you break out; it really comes down to concentration, formula, and your skin.

There's nothing in this ingredient for the Malassezia yeast to metabolize (it feeds in the C11-24 range), so this ingredient is fungal acne safe because it is outside of that range.

Allergy risk appears very low; animal and clinical testing found the undiluted ingredient to be neither an irritant nor a sensitizer; a formula containing 16% produced no phototoxicity or photoallergenicity as well.
