Hydroxytyrosol

Explained

Hydroxytyrosol is a polyphenol naturally found in olives and wines. Polyphenols are potent antioxidants that naturally occur in plants.

As an antioxidant, this ingredient is highly effective at neutralizing free-radical molecules; these molecules can damage skin cells to accelerate the aging process.

According to a manufacturer, this ingredient also has anti-inflammatory, cell-regeneration, and hydrating properties.

A study from South Korea found this ingredient to have anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects on UV-A damaged human fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are cells that create collagen and connective tissue.

Studies also show this ingredient to be beneficial in wound healing.

Due to the novelty of this ingredient, further studies are needed to prove its efficacy as a cosmetic ingredient. However, it does seem promising and there is no harm in using this ingredient.

This ingredient is rich in oleuropein.
