Baicalin
Explained
Baicalin is an active ingredient derived from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis. It has skin conditioning and antioxidant properties.
Research shows baicalin is able to reduce inflammatory signals in skin. This makes it especially helpful for sensitive, reactive, easily irritated, or acne-prone skin. In acne-prone skin, baicalin plays a supportive and calming role rather than targeting oil or bacteria directly.
In lab and skin-model studies, baicalin has been shown to influence pathways involved in excess pigmentation. This is why you'll often see it included in products aimed at dullness or discoloration.
This ingredient is also one part of the compound Vitasource. According to a manufacturer, Vitasource protects skin cells from aging by activating a gene that supports cellular renewal and longevity.
